High Court Decision in College Admissions Case Has K-12 Implications

In 2007, Chief Justice Roberts famously declared in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle that “the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.” In Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) v. Harvard and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, the Supreme Court moves much closer to Roberts’ position on racial discrimination. The court’s ruling, announced June 29, 2023, will have significant effects on college admissions policies and also on k-12 education.
