Still ‘remembering the Titans’: School board votes against splitting famous Virginia high school

Those who have seen Disney’s “Remember the Titans” know the story of T.C. Williams High School from the opening scene — or at least the Hollywood version of how the city consolidated and integrated all high school students in one place in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1971, during an era of racial violence and unrest.

All graduates from the district have been Titans ever since.

That came close to changing this fall, when school board members were once again faced with the decision of whether to split the state’s largest high school or keep the one-school model in place.
