How the University of Michigan Upgraded to Next-Generation Wi-Fi Access Points

The University of Michigan is just wrapping up a major connectivity upgrade, including the implementation of new Wi-Fi access points across academic, administrative and residence hall buildings.

With greater capacity in the 6GHz band and wider channels up to 160 megahertz, Wi-Fi 6E brings new capabilities to students, faculty and staff at UMich’s Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses. It was a much-needed enhancement, says Vice President of IT and CIO Ravi Pendse.

“Our wireless network was last upgraded back in 2013, almost nine years ago. We were due for an upgrade. We wanted to take advantage of the newest technologies and provide the kind of experience that our community needed,” Pendse says.
